KIA announces VP candidates for Dec. 10 by-election
Four candidates in the running to replace Dennis Lyall
The Kitikmeot Inuit Association released Nov. 7 the list of its official candidates for the position of vice-president, vacated last month by Dennis Lyall, who resigned less than a year after his election.
The by-election to chose a new vice-president of finance will take place Dec. 10, when eligible beneficiaries of the Nunavut land claims agreement will also vote for a new Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. president.
The final list of candidates, subject to “confirming eligibility,” the KIA said, are:
• Robert Agnavigak, Cambridge Bay;
• Paul Ikuallaq, Gjoa Haven;
• Makabe Nartok, Kugaaruk; and,
• Robert Lyall, Taloyoak.
The new vice-president’s position will be a term position, lasting until March 31, 2015, the KIA said in a Nov. 7 news release.
Eligible voters can vote in an advance poll Dec. 3, from 1 a.m. to 5 p.m., or on Dec. 10 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Notices of where to vote will be posted later in all communities, the KIA said.
You can vote in the upcoming KIA election if you live in the region, are 16 years of age or older, and eligible to enroll under the Nunavut land claims agreement.
