Nunavut RCMP investigate sudden death of Baker Lake woman
Woman found dead in “local residence”
Police in Baker Lake are investigating the death of a woman whose body they found in a local housing unit, after the RCMP detachment received a call from a concerned resident April 16.
Police are not releasing the name of the dead woman, who is described as being in her 40s.
“The RCMP Major Crimes Unit and Forensic Identification Services are assisting the local detachment and the Office of the Chief Coroner with this ongoing investigation,” police said in a news release April 17.
“A person known to the individual” called police to check on the woman out of concern for her welfare in the morning of April 16, because she “had not been heard from in a while,” said Sgt. Yvonne Niego, a spokesperson for the Nunavut RCMP.
Officers discovered the woman’s body just after 10 a.m., Niego said. Police could not provide information about the dwelling.
An autopsy will be conducted to help with the investigation, Niego said.
