The Qulliit Nunavut Status of Women Council plans to hold an open house for their new office on March 7 during International Women’s week, which will also kick off International Women’s Day which starts March 8.

The event takes place in the Qulliit office at building 987B in Iqaluit from 4:30 p.m.  to 6:30 p.m.

Qulliit board members from around Nunavut are also in Iqaluit for the council’s annual general meeting this week in the city.

Speaking March five in the Nunavut legislature Monica Ell, minister responsible for Status of Women, said she wished Qulliit successful annual general meeting to “encourage all of us to think hard about why there is so much violence against women and what we each can do to end it.”

“I look forward to the discussions I will be having with the council on their priorities, such as ending the violence against women, which is too prevalent in Nunavut,” Ell said.

Pauktuutit Inuit Women of Canada, the national organization of Inuit women, also held its annual general meeting in Ottawa this past week.

“Many of the issues so near and dear to my heart, such as ending violence against women,  sexual health, and Inuit women in business, are some of the priorities of Pauktuutit,” Ell noted.
