NUNATSIAQ NEWS

The Qikiqtani Inuit Association has hired long-time Iqaluit bureaucrat Bernie MacIsaac to head its director of lands and resources department, the organization said April 10.

“Mr. MacIsaac brings extensive and valuable experience on northern issues to QIA and we are pleased to have him join our team and take over the Lands and Resources department,” said QIA president Okalik Eegeesiak in a news release.

The QIA’s lands and resources department is responsible for the management of Inuit-owned lands across the region, providing support to the QIA in negotiating Inuit Impact Benefits Agreements and process land use applications across the Baffin region.

MacIsaac, who has worked for Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development and the Government of Nunavut, comes to the QIA with more than 30 years of experience.

MacIsaac also chairs the Nunavut Mining Symposium Society.

MacIsaac takes over from the lands and resources department’s acting director Salomonie Shoo.
