What now?

Qanurli, Nunavut’s popular Inuit-language comedy series, wants to connect with more of its viewers and Nunavummiut youth through social media.

That’s why the show has launched a new website, where they will host a series of live webcasts starting next month.

Qanurli’s producers decided to offer more to viewers when they realized how much content and deleted scenes end up on the cutting room floor.

“We’re also going to be putting up a lot of interesting extras that will only be available online,” said Thomas Anguti Johnston, who stars as Inuk Qablunaaq in the Inuit Broadcasting Corporation-produced series. “I think that will bring people to the site.”

To help launch the site, Inuk and his co-star, Nipangi, will broadcast live from Nunavut Sivuniksavut in Ottawa Feb. 3, from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The show’s producers promise the webcast will offer original material, competitions and “general mayhem” as well as the chance to chat with Inuk and Nipangi while you watch the live show.

Qanurli also plans a second webcast live from Iqaluit sometime in March.

“I am excited that IBC is launching more initiatives in support of our goal to promote the use of the Inuit language,” said IBC president Madeleine d’Argencourt in a Jan. 27 press release. “The new website, the webcasts and social media campaign build on IBC’s successes in broadcasting over the last thirty years.”

Qanurli, which bills itself “Wayne’s World meets Saturday Night Live, Inuk-style,” has just finished filming its fourth season.

Viewers can also follow the show on its Facebook page and its Twitter feed.
