Police discovered body of teenaged girl outside the community June 9
Nunavut RCMP are investigating the suspicious death of a young woman in Igloolik, police said in a June 9 release.
Police say they were alerted to the discovery of a “deceased female” June 9 just outside of the community of about 1,500 people.
Members of the Nunavut RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit and Forensic Identification Services are on site investigating the death, police said.
Police wouldn’t provide any other details. But sources told Nunatsiaq News the victim is a teenaged girl.
The sources, who are familiar with Igloolik, said two teenagers may have been involved in an altercation involving a firearm.
Police have not said if they’ve made any arrests in the case.
In the legislative assembly in Iqaluit June 9, Aggu MLA Paul Quassa expressed his condolences to residents in his riding.
“I rise today to say that we are thinking of Igloolik residents, all of us. I know that even though they are facing difficult challenges we think of you and have you in our prayers.”
