NUNATSIAQ NEWS
Operation Nanook 2014, the Canadian Forces annual mock disaster exercise, began to unfold in the waters and on land near Iqaluit at the beginning of August but the actual disaster scenarios — a fishing vessel search and rescue exercise and cruise ship mishap — are being managed between Aug. 20 and 29. Both the Government of Nunavut's Emergency Management Organization and the Canadian Rangers are participating in this year's exercise. Ranger Master Corporal Hezakiah Oshutapik of the 1st Canadian Ranger Patrol Group, is seen here on an ATV in York Sound Aug. 22, where, in the scenario, the cruise ship runs aground with 300-400 passengers on board.
