Prime Minister Stephen Harper meets Aug. 21 with miners in Yukon. "Our government is committed to ensuring that Northerners benefit from the tremendous natural resource reserves that are found in their region," Harper said in an Aug. 21 government news release. On Aug. 22 Harper plans to visit Cambridge Bay. He'll be accompanied by his wife Laureen Harper, as he visits the Martin Bergmann research vessel and Nunavut Arctic College. Along with Nunavut MP Leona Aglukkaq, John Duncan, the minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development, Nunavut Premier Eva Aariak and Senator Dennis Patterson, the Harpers will attend a community feast in the evening. The entertainment will include fiddle music by Colin Adjun, who recently received a Diamond Jubilee medal. (PHOTO COURTESY OF THE PMO)
