An Alaskan performer flies high through the air in Inuvik, Northwest Territories, as part of a cultural demonstration at this week's Inuit Circumpolar Council's general assembly. The Alaskan blanket toss, or nalukataq, was traditionally used by the Inupiat to give hunters a high vantage point to see check for whales ahead of the spring hunt. The ICC assembly wraps up July 24, with the presentation of the meeting's Kitigaaryuit declaration. (PHOTO COURTESY OF MAKIVIK CORP)
