Throat singer Tanya Tagaq, originally of Cambridge Bay, who's performed with with pop stars, orchestras and has even sung live accompaniment to the historic documentary Nanook of the North, took home the Galaxie Rising Star award at the Mundial Montreal music festival Nov. 19 to Nov. 22. Galaxie is a music and video streaming company that offers subscriber-based music channels in a spectrum of music types. Its Rising Stars program was launched in 1998 to recognize and help promote upcoming Canadian artists.
