Jan Wanggaard and Bjørn Myrann meet with Cambridge Bay mayor Jeannie Ehaloak Aug. 13, about their plans to bring the submerged hulk of the Maud or Baymaud, once sailed by Norwegian polar hero Roald Amundsen, back to Norway. "We informed her about the project status and gave her some details on where we are in the process of preparing for next year salvage operation and also in the documenting process. We also brought up that we hope Cambridge Bay and Asker can build some good connections for the future to come, maybe as friendship communities," Wanggaard said on his blog "Maud returns home." The Norwegians are hosting a community feast Aug. 15 at the Luke Novoligak community hall at 6 p.m. where Wanggaard plans to give a short introduction to the salvage plans for the ship and show photos and film from the wreck – from above the water and below the surface.
