John Graham, 56, Iqaluit's former airport manager, will now serve as Iqaluit's mayor. Graham, with 953 votes, racked up an overwhelming majority: 71 per cent of ballots cast in the Oct. 15 municipal election. Al Hayward finished in second place with 204 votes, or 15.2 per cent and Noah Papatsie third with 184 votes, or 13.7 per cent. About 42 per cent of eligible municipal voters turned out. Ratepayers, in a referendum, approved the idea of borrowing up to $40 million for a new aquatic centre, with 57 per cent of ratepayers saying yes and 43 per cent saying no.
