This image of a polar bear, recently hunted in Arctic Bay, made the rounds on Twitter Dec. 4 after Nunavut MP Leona Aglukkaq retweeted the photo, with the message "Enjoy!" That sparked a flurry of support and criticism of the Inuit polar bear hunt, with many arguing the animals are threatened and shouldn't be hunted at all. "I will continue to stand up for Inuit and Northern communities who rely on the polar bear hunt," Aglukkaq later tweeted to her followers. Aglukkaq led a Canadian delegation at an international forum on polar bear conservation in Moscow, Russia, Dec. 4-6, where Arctic nations signed a joint declaration aimed at furthering the conservation and management of polar bears — a plan that will also integrate aboriginal traditional knowledge.
