Iqaluit deputy fire chief George Seigler, centre, in black, confers with firefighters at a multi-residential building threatened by a small fire on Tasilik Street in the Lake Subdivision on the evening of Feb. 25. Residents alerted the Iqaluit fire department just after 8 p.m. to a fire around a drier on the second floor of a three-bedroom apartment, which “spread smoke throughout the entire unit,” Seigler said. Firefighters extinguished the flames and cleared the apartment of smoke by about 9 p.m. The fire’s cause “is under investigation right now,” Seigler said, as firefighters began packing their equipment. The unit suffered minimal damage and no injuries were reported. (PHOTO BY PETER VARGA)
