NUNATSIAQ NEWS
Concerned northerners and Greenpeace activists protest outside the Northwest Territories Legislative Assembly at the opening of the Arctic Council's Senior Arctic Officials meeting in Yellowknife March 25. According to the council, the meeting is expected to focus on the council’s Adaptation Actions for a Changing Arctic project, as well as exploring the reduction of short-lived climate pollutants, such as the small air-borne particles known as black carbon or soot. But protesters are concerned that the council, under Canada's chairmanship, is pushing a pro-oil agenda and worries that decisions about the Arctic are being made by delegates behind closed doors.
