Monica Ell, Nunavut's minister for human resources, and Doug Workman, the president of the Nunavut Employees Union, signed a new collective agreement Oct. 10 at the legislative assembly building in Iqaluit. “Negotiations are never easy as we can see by the length of time it has taken for us to be here today,” Ell said. “I was so happy as this is the first collective agreement for me as minister of human resources.

The signing comes after 73 per cent of GN public service employees voted Sept. 18 in favour of the new agreement. The result means NEU members receive annual wage increases over the life of the four-year deal, which runs until Sept. 30, 2014. (PHOTO BY SAMANTHA DAWSON)
