Three Saami delegates from Norway made it to Iqaluit Nov. 27 for the opening of the Circumpolar Conference on Education for Indigenous People hosted jointly by the Governments of Nunavut and Greenland at the Frobisher Inn. "I believe this will be a ground-breaking gathering in support of literacy, life-long learning and skills development," Nunavut Premier Eva Aariak, who is also the territory's education minister, said in her welcoming address to the conference. The conference start-up was delayed by a day because of the blizzard that struck Nov. 26, and some of the 125 delegates are still en route. The conference is scheduled to wrap up Nov. 30.
