Captain Aaron Noble, left, shakes hands with Governor General David Johnston at Rideau Hall in Ottawa Feb. 18, shortly after Noble was awarded the Meritorious Service Cross. Noble was honoured for his role leading a 2011 mission where he rescued two hunters stranded in Foxe Basin, near Igloolik. It was a demanding helicopter rescue that required parachuting three search and rescue technicians into icy waters, in darkness and poor weather. One of those technicians, Sgt. Janick Gilbert, died during the mission. Captain Noble, the aricraft commander, is credited with his expert planning, which saved the lives of hunters David and Lester Aqqiaruq. (PHOTO BY SGT.
