Darleen Qamukkaq and Lorna Gee of Gjoa Haven hold special birthday cakes for their children at the Yellowknife airport as they wait for their flight home on Sept. 23. The cakes finally made it to Gjoa Haven Sept. 23, but too late for the planned birthday parties. The cakes arrived nearly two days late, due to a cancelled flight on Sept. 22 and another delay on Sept. 23 when mechanical issues forced the aircraft to turn back to Yellowknife after more than two hours in the air. The two mothers, along with other passengers on their flight, received $200 vouchers to use towards a future First Air flight as compensation for the inconvenience. (PHOTO BY JANE GEORGE)
