Nunavut RCMP seize .22-calibre handgun, lay 21 charges
Emergency response team flies to Coral Harbour
An RCMP emergency response team seized a .22-calibre handgun from a young Coral Harbour man Dec. 15, following complaints that someone used a gun to commit “numerous indictable offences,” the Nunavut RCMP said in a news release.
Members of the Coral Harbour RCMP detachment learned about the weapons incidents Dec. 14.
The RCMP sent an emergency response team to Coral Harbour Dec. 15, “due to the high risk to the public, the accused and the police.”
The beefed-up police entourage located a man, arrested him, and then found the handgun.
Taylor Paniyuk, 20, of Coral Harbour, is charged with 21 criminal code offences.
He remains in custody and is set to appear before the Nunavut Court of Justice Jan. 8.
