Nunavik man dies following police intervention
Quebec provincial police to investigate incident
An Inukjuak man died overnight following a police intervention in the Nunavik community of 1,500.
Kativik Regional Police Force officers responded to an incident at a private residence on the evening of July 17 in which a 29-year-old man was seriously injured, said Quebec’s provincial police force, the Sûreté du Québec.
The man died later that evening from his injuries. The KRPF would not provide any details about the incident.
Investigators from the Sûreté du Québec arrived in the Hudson Bay community July 18, where they hope to determine what happened.
Any time a person suffers an injury or dies during a police operation or detention, the investigation must be handled by an outside police force, as determined by Quebec’s department of public safety.
