Nunavut Tourism mascot will promote sports fishing

A new mascot joined Iqaluit’s Santa Clause parade this Saturday, Dec. 8., Charly the Arctic Char, Tourism Nunavut’s new official mascot for recreational sport fishing.

Charly, the brightly colored spawning Arctic char will make her public debut in the Iqaluit Santa Claus Parade and Nunavut Tourism encourages everyone to come out and meet her, a release said.

Video footage of Charly walking in the parade will be posted on Facebook and YouTube next week for viewing.

Nunavut Tourism and the Department of Environment have been working closely to promote sport fishing in the territory through tours, trade shows and advertising. The addition of an official mascot will be very beneficial in promoting Nunavut at trade shows and events down South and in the North, the release said. 

“We are very fortunate to continue to work with the Department of Environment,” says Michael Hart, Nunavut Tourism’s chair.

“Sport fishing has always been a cornerstone of tourism in Nunavut and we are happy to work to grow.”
