Makivvik Corp. announces candidates for Jan. 17 election
Nunavik Inuit will vote for a new vice-president of economic development and a new corporate secretary
The race is on: beneficiaries of the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement will vote Jan. 17 for a new vice-president of economic development and a new corporate secretary for Makivvik Corp.
The candidates, as announced Dec. 5, are Adamie Alaku and Michael Gordon.
The January 13 election marks the third time these two will run against each other for the vice-president’s position, which Alaku, who now works for the federal government, held until 2007.
Gordon served as mayor of Kuujjuaq for four terms before he was first elected as Makivvik’s economic vice-president in 2007.
The four candidates for the position of corporate secretary include:
• Sarah Airo;
• Daniel Epoo;
• the incumbent Andy Moorhouse; and,
• Maggie Putulik.
Elections for these positions take place Jan. 17, with polls open at local municipal or Landholding offices 10 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Advance Polls will be open on Jan. 10 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
A polling station will also be open at the Montreal office of Makivvik.
Beneficiaries, 18 and over, are eligible to vote.
