The Kivalliq Energy Corp. has picked up the 2012 Environmental Excellence Award, handed out by the Kivalliq Inuit Association.

The award acknowledges the uranium exploration and development company’s “outstanding environmental stewardship” at its Angilak property.

The award, the corporation’s second, was presented to Kivalliq Energy at the recent Prospectors and Developers of Canada Association conference in Toronto.

“The Kivalliq team continues to adhere to the highest environmental and safety standards in our exploration activities at the Angilak property,” stated Kivalliq’s chief operating officer, Andrew Berry, in a March 12 news release. “We are honoured to receive this award as public recognition of our efforts by the KIA for the past two years.”

Kivalliq Energy, formed out of a 2008 Inuit-owned lands deal between Nunavut Tunggavik Inc. and the Kaminak Gold Corp., operates on the 252,000 acre Angilak property, home to the high-grade Lac Cinquante deposit.

Since it acquired the property in 2008, Kivalliq has invested approximately $30 million into Angilak on systematic exploration of the property, geological mapping, prospecting and approximately 48,000 metres of diamond drilling.
