Iqaluit man charged in two Aug. 14 sexual assaults

Police in Iqaluit have arrested a man in connection with two sexual assaults alleged to have occurred at different areas of the city Aug. 14.
Responding to a call about a distraught woman outside a residence, police discovered a woman had been sexually assaulted at another location in the city and had eventually been released by her assailant.
Police then received a call from a “concerned resident” about a second sexual assault in progress outside a residence, a RCMP news release said Aug. 15.
They found and arrested a man, the news release said.
Lucassie Ipeelie, 24, of Iqaluit faces seven charges, including two counts of sexual assault and one count each of forcible confinement, uttering threats, assault and breaching a probation order.
Ipeelie is set to appear in the Nunavut Court of Justice in Iqaluit on Aug. 15 for a show cause hearing.
