Iqaluit man, 50, faces charges after woman suffers brutal beating
Woman medevaced to Ottawa with “severe head injuries”
An Iqaluit woman is receiving treatment at an Ottawa hospital for injuries inflicted Feb. 3 during a brutal beating, the Nunavut RCMP said in a news release.
Police found the woman at an Iqaluit residence after they responded to a call received at about 8:10 p.m. that evening, police said.
The woman, suffering “severe head injuries,” was taken to the Qikiqtani hospital and then medevaced to Ottawa. Police did not release the woman’s name or age.
At the residence, police also found a man, who they arrested and detained in an Iqaluit RCMP cell.
Pitseola Peter, 50, is charged with aggravated assault and failure to comply with a probation order.
He was to have appeared in court Feb. 6 in Iqaluit.
