NUNATSIAQ NEWS

The couple who were first charged with car theft and fraud related to the disappearance of Loretta Saunders, an Inuk from Nunatsiavut, have now been charged with her homicide.

Victoria Henneberry, 28, and Blake Leggette, 25, were charged on the afternoon of Feb. 27 by the Halifax Regional Police/RCMP Integrated Major Crime Unit.

The two are scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court Feb. 28 to face charges of first degree murder, according to a Feb. 27 news release from Halifax Regional Police.

Saunders, 26, and a student of sociology at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, was last seen in Halifax on Feb. 13.

Five days later her car was located in Harrow, Ont. Henneberry and Leggette were arrested soon after, charged with theft and remanded into custody.

Saunders’ remains were discovered west of Moncton, N.B. on Feb. 26, nearly two weeks after she disappeared.
