Police allege two escorts on medical charter returned with $3,100 of alcohol
Police netted 15 bottles of vodka, rum and sparkling wine during a recent seizure in Kugaaruk.
Two local adult residents of Kugaaruk have now been charged with unlawful possession of liquor under the Nunavut liquor act, a June 12 RCMP news release said.
The news release did not mention the names of the two who were charged.
Two people were detained and searched at the airport “during an investigation of bringing liquor in to the prohibited community,” the release said.
They were returning on a chartered medical flight as escorts, police said.
Police seized four 1.75-litre bottles of vodka, one 750-ml bottle of vodka, eight 375-ml bottles of vodka, one 375-ml bottle of rum and one bottle of sparkling wine. Police say the estimated street value of the alcohol is more than $3,100.
