The Queen is coming!

Nunatsiaq News

IQALUIT — Nunavut will play host to Queen Elizabeth during October of next year.

The royal visit will be part of a Canadian tour slated for Oct. 4-25, 2002. The Queen will be accompanied by her husband, Prince Phillip, the Duke of Edinburgh.

Though it will be the Queen’s first official visit since the creation of Nunavut, this will be her third visit to the eastern Arctic. The Queen was last here in 1994, when she toured Rankin Inlet and Iqaluit.

The Queen also visited Iqaluit, then known as Frobisher Bay, in 1970.

According to the premier’s office, details about where the Queen will go and what she’ll do in Nunavut are still being finalized.
