WWF plans for cleaner
world
Nunatsiaq News
IQALUIT Last week the leaders of the World Wildlife Federations
Arctic offices met in Toronto to discuss the impact of development,
climate change and pollutants on the circumpolar world.
The WWF, a group devoted to conservation efforts, works in 100
countries.
By 2010, the WWF leaders said they want to complete a circumpolar
network of protected areas, restore threatened wildlife populations,
cut emissions of greenhouse gasses thought to cause global warming,
and, by 2007, eliminate 30 of the most hazardous industrial chemicals
and pesticides found in the Arctic.
The participants press conference was broadcast live on
the Internet. It can be heard at www.wwf.ca.
