Kilabuk saga continues
Nunatsiaq News
IQALUIT The list of 22 reasons why QIA employees think suspended
QIA President Meeka Kilabuk should resign has finally been translated
into Inuktitut, but members of the public still can't see it.
QIA employees compiled the list during the third week of August
at the behest of the association's board of directors.
QIA's acting executive director, John MacDougall, promised two
weeks ago that the list would be distributed to the public. At
the time, MacDougall said he couldn't release the list because
it hadn't been translated from English into Inuktitut.
However, in a telephone interview Tuesday, MacDougall said that
rather than being released publicly, the list was faxed to members
of QIA's board of directors.
QIA directors will be in Iqaluit Sept. 19 for a full board meeting
during which they'll discuss what to do about Kilabuk.
MacDougall said that the directors will decide then whether to
hold a closed-door meeting. If they opt for an open forum, he
said the list will probably be released at that meeting.
The board requested Kilabuk's resignation July 18 after forcing
her to take a leave-of-absence in June.
Kilabuk refused to resign, so board members asked QIA employees
to compile a list of reasons why she should step down.
