In the first incident, a Cambridge Bay man was arrested after a 30-year old man was shot in the chest with a small-calibre firearm. Police said last week the victim is recovering in an Edmonton hospital and was in stable condition.
Police said alcohol was a factor in the July 15 incident.
Luke Kudlak, 74, was to have appearred in court July 16 in Cambridge Bay to face one charge of aggravated assault and one charge of using a firearm in the commission of an offence.
The second incident involved a 15-year old male who was spotted on a hill in Iqaluit with a rifle by an Iqaluit resident. Police were called to the scene around 10:15 a.m. July 17.
When they approached the boy he pointed his .22 caliber rifle at them and threatened the officers.
"The altercation probably lasted 10 minutes, max," said Staff Sgt. Jim MacDougal of the Iqaluit detachment. MacDougal said four officers responded to the call initially, and two more arrived later.
"He did surrender eventually, but it took a little talking to get him to that point," MacDougal said.
The boy, who cannot be named because of the Young Offenders Act, has been charged with four counts of pointing a firearm, one count of possession of a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public peace, one count of uttering a death threat and one count of using a firearm in the commission of an offence.
MacDougal said that all of the offences stemmed from when police confronted the boy.
