Cambridge Bay needs a food bank

Nunatsiaq News

CAMBRIDGE BAY — Cambridge Bay's town council wants to do something to help its hungry residents. According to the town's SAO, Elwood Johnston, the problem of hunger in Cambridge Bay is still relatively small compared to Iqaluit's.

But he said that at the end of the month, when money runs out, it's not unusual for eight to 10 families to show up needing food.

"If even one person is hungry, it's too much," Johnston said.

Johnston said no decision yet has been made on what form this food bank will take, although Cambridge Bay's wellness committee will begin work on the project shortly.

"It would be nice to have something in place," Johnston said.
