Charity basketball tournament registration
Sign up by Sunday, May 22 for the first annual "Hoops for the
Homeless" tournament, hosted by the Iqaluit Basketball Association. For

years old or older. Registration $20. All proceeds go to the Iqaluit homeless
shelter. Tournament runs Saturday, May 28, Inuksuk High School.

Shelter open house
Saturday, May 28, 1-3 p.m., House #778. The Salvation Army is holding
an open house at the proposed new homeless shelter, where they will be hearing
suggestions and concerns from community members.
Music camp
August 15 to 19, Joamie Ilinniarvik School, presented by the Iqaluit
Music Society. Registration forms are available by phoning Lora Blair at 979-1088
or through school principals.
Allison Brewer, a gay rights activist and former resident of Iqaluit, is expected to announce this week whether she'll take over the leadership of the New Brunswick NDP.
Brewer, 50, moved back to Fredericton from Iqaluit last year, shortly after receiving an award from the Governor General to honour her efforts in promoting equality for lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgendered people.
During her time in Nunavut, Brewer was a leading supporter of the territory's Human Rights Act that narrowly passed in November 2003.
She was also a main organizer for the annual Pride and Friends of Pride picnic in Iqaluit.

Kamatsiaqtut help line banquet
Saturday, May 14, Arctic Winter Games Arena. The Nunavut Kamatsiaqtut
Help Line holds its annual fundraiser. Tickets, $50, include dinner, entertainment,
raffles and an auction.

Music Society presents performances by two choirs, the community orchestra,
